Is a Single Nitroglycerin Study Sufficient to Say That It Is Safe Not to Give Nitroglycerin Before Radial Intervention?

To the Editor,

We read with great interest the article titled “Impact of Nitroglycerine Injection on Radial Artery Outcomes in Distal Transradial Access” written by Karaca et al1 and published in Anatol J Cardiol 2025; 29(3): 139-144. This study comes across as a well-designed study on the benefit/disuse of nitroglycerin injection before radial artery intervention. However, there are some questions that we would like to ask the authors politely. It is stated in the study that the study was conducted retrospectively. It is seen that the patients who applied were accepted as elective or emergency cases. However, are the troponin values given in Table 1 within the normal range according to the applications? Or we request that the normal-high value of troponin be stated in the article. We would also like to ask why the patients included in the study did not receive nitroglycerin before radial intervention, although there are studies recommending nitroglycerin.2 Also, 1 study3 found that patients with radial artery diameters and hyperlipidemia may cause radial artery occlusion after or during the procedure. May we ask if the authors’ study contains data on this?
